Procrastinating or Protecting

Ok, I’ll admit it. I procrastinate.

Not always by choice, as sometime life throws everything but the kitchen sink in my way to keep me from writing. In the past two weeks, I think it would have dumped that on me as well if it could have figured out how to operate a screwdriver. (Thank the Spirits that life has no thumbs!)

Now when I finally find time to sit down and write a critical scene in my current WIP, my character balks. Now I can’t say that I blame him. He gets pretty brutalized in this next section. If I didn’t know better I would say he is avoiding his crisis. He’ll talk to me about the scene after and even further along in the story. But this scene? Nope, not having it. It’s there, but he won’t let me write it. Stubborn!

Wonder if it is procrastination or protection? Am I having difficulty writing the scene because in some deep dark section of my brain, I don’t want to hurt this character? Maybe. I mean I like him. Violence is an unfortunate reality in life and in the case of the story, necessary. It doesn’t mean I have to like it.

Fortunately the co main character finished the lead up scene without any such reservations. Well, I guess it’s time to corner Mitchell in a sneak attack…much how the scene starts.

This is not the ending but a lesson in growth! Mitchell has a lot to learn still
